Sentry Sound-off for July 21

As summer rounds the corner to July, the Sentry is one step ahead keeping tabs on your local government while you entertain guests from away.
This week the South Portland City Council took a vacation from their vacations to tackle a number of issues. They agreed to ask voters to borrow $500,000 for paving projects and gave the green light to $3.5 million in other capital projects.  SMCC can get to the nitty gritty on their new dorm now that they know where it will be and the brand-new Willard square zone got a tune-up. Spring Point Ledge lighthouse is a great place to go to soak up some sun and history.
In Cape, the big news was nothing happened, after the town’s planning board didn’t reconsider its approval of Spurwink Woods.
South Portland’s attorney Mary Kahl talks about how she makes up for her lack of artistic talent, among other things in our interview of the week.
Tolerating others intolerance is the subject of a number of Letters to the Editor as well as our editorial. While another letter shows at least one person is sorry to see the Ocean Street Auto property turned into condos.
Erin says goodbye in her final Reporters Notebook entry for the sentry and plugs her new gig at our sister paper, The Gorham-Westbrook Gazette.
Say hello to Zack Anchors who will be covering South Portland for the Sentry.
As always, there’s much more in the paper and online.
