Dill sponsors election legislation addressing issue advocacy groups
The Legislature’s Committee on Legal and Veterans
Affairs will hold a public hearing on Monday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. on a
bill that would improve public disclosure in citizen initiative
campaigns.
Rep. Cynthia Dill (D-Cape Elizabeth), will introduce the bill, which she submitted in the wake of controversy surrounding certain organizations’ involvement in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, or TABOR, referendum campaign.
The bill, LD 508, clarifies the law regulating disclosure requirements of persons or organizations that are not full-fledged political action committees but nonetheless solicit and spend contributions to influence the outcome of citizen referendums.
Specifically, the bill would require a person who raises money or makes expenditures on a citizen initiative to file a report with the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices when their contributions or expenditures exceed $3,000.
The bill would also make it necessary to report staff time and in-kind expenditures as part of that limit.
The public hearing is scheduled to take place in room 437 of the State House in Augusta.

We're giving Mexico one billion dollars and we are 9
trillion dollars in debt! That's $30,000.00 for every
living, breathing person in the country. Our dollar is down 30% on the world market due to Washington over spending. Will the World give us aid when we need it?
We're going to the moon, but we can't fix our
bridges? We did that 40 years ago.
Because of NAFTA, people now have $12.00 an hour jobs,
when they used to have $30.00 an hour jobs, and yet
China is allowed to pollute the air and water, and use
slave labor to help corporate America make bigger
profits.
We are giving money to the rest of the world and we
can't help our own citizens with health care?
We are in a war without end because we've been lied
to by our President, and he is still allowed to be in
office.
Leading Democrats want to take my guns as they don't
feel safe in California, and I live in Maine? But it
is OK to kill an unborn human being because we don't
see him or her?
Most people are too busy working and watching stupid
TV shows to care. It used to be Government for the
people, not the rest of the world.
Had enough, I have! I plan on running for congress
next year as an independent. I refuse to take money
from business so I will most likely not win, even if I
am really for the people and not for corporate America
because they paid for the Republican and Democrat
Regimes election. But I will be heard. . .LOUD!
I'll be gathering signatures in found of your Channel 6, 13 and 8, andd other places, as soon as I can get the papers from Augusta.
I have no experience in spending more money then we
can afford to spend, in Augusta or Washington D.C., So that is a BIG PLUS! Along with the fact, I am not a lawyer
or a career politician, so I must have common sense.
We all better weak out or we'll be a third world nation.
Thank You,
Dave Call, age 58 today, Standish, Maine
