Letter: Jankowski tenure a sorry chapter for So.Po. (Printed June 8, 2007)

Editor:
Being a resident of South Portland, this whole city council, city manager mess continues to frustrate and anger me. If I lived somewhere else, I may find it amusing, but that’s not the case.
Former city manager, Thaddeus Jankowski, is leaving town, after eight months, on the job. I have to say good-riddance. Take Mayor Claude Morgan, and the rest of the city council with you. What a waste of the taxpayers money, to send Jankowski off with a $43,600 check, especially since the contract specified, if he resigned, (which of course he did with virtually no notice) he was allowed the sum of $7,500. And with all the trouble he has caused, and then the glorifying of Jankowski, Mayor Morgan should also depart.
Why the city hired Thaddeus Jankowski, in the first place, with his ugly departures, from other cities, being public knowledge, is beyond logic.
Everything in local city, and town government, should be transparent. Nothing should be clocked in any type of secrecy.    The local government of South Portland, has been, for the better part of a year, run like a corporate oil company. Infighting, resignations, threats, factions going after certain people, have been the order of the day down at City Hall.
What in the world went wrong?
