New committee for sports complex (Printed June 8, 2007)

The Cape Elizabeth Town Council voted Monday night to reconstitute the town’s Turf Field Committee to guide future improvements at the town’s newest athletic facility. The committee, renamed the “Hannaford Field Committee,” and will have the purpose of reviewing “any proposed addition or construction of an accessory structure or improvement to Hannaford Field, including but not limited to a concession stand, bleachers and a coaches box…”
The committee will make its recommendations to the school board. If the school board approves any such recommendations, it will forward those recommendations to the town council.
The committee’s structure was amended to include a resident of the Elizabeth Park neighborhood as well as having two sitting members of the Town Council and the School Board. While the previous Turf Field Committee also had two councilors and two school board members, three of those four elected officials were not replaced after they declined to run for reelection in November.
Town Manager Michael McGovern said construction of the field is progressing well and the field should be completed in a few weeks.
