Police charge man in shotgun assault (Printed July 6, 2007)
At approximately 8 p.m. on June 28, South Portland
police officers were dispatched to 1793 Broadway near the I-295
northbound entrance at intersection of Broadway and Westbrook Street,
for a report of a male subject assaulting and threatening people with a
shotgun. The man left prior to the units’ arrival, believed to still be
armed and last seen on the municipal golf course.
Officers and a K9 Team from the department, assisted by officers from Scarborough and State Police, tracked the suspect to 10 Wilson Street less than a mile south of the golf course off Main Street (Route 1), where he was located and taken into custody without incident. Randolph Dionisio, 45, of South Portland was arrested and booked at the Cumberland County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, both felonies.
According to a statement released by Lt. Frank Clark of the South Portland Police Department, the investigation indicated, in part, that Dionisio struck a 53-year-old male acquaintance about the face and head with a shotgun, which was recovered by police where the alleged assault took place.
The victim was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
