Letter: Community comes together for food pantry (Printed Aug. 24, 2007)
Editor:
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many residents who answered the call for help with the Food Cupboard flood damage expenses. This truly helps the many individuals and families of South Portland that seek assistance with supplemental food. Our food budget is being reimbursed.
We would also like to acknowledge the weekly donations of fresh vegetables from Jordan’s Farm in Cape Elizabeth. Each year, Jordan’s raises funds for “Adopt a Senior Program,” and as we have over 130 seniors that visit our pantry every month, we qualify for participation in this program too. When funds run out, Jordan’s still donates fresh vegetables that they have in excess. We love the fact that good, nutritional food is not going to waste and we are the recipients!
We share our food with over 400 men, women, and children a month, not 400 families, [as stated in a letter printed last week in The Sentry].
