The South Portland High School Marching Band will play host to 13 high school marching bands from Maine and New Hampshire for the Maine Band Director’s Association (MBDA) High School Marching Band Home Show tomorrow evening (Oct. 20). The show kicks off at 5:55 p.m. at SPHS’ George E. Martin Memorial Field with a rendition of the national anthem performed by the Memorial and Mahoney Middle Schools’ seventh and eighth grade bands. South Portland will perform music from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” A panel of MBDA judges evaluates each band on a four-star scale in the areas of music, visual effects, color guards, percussion, drum major, general effect and the overall effect of the show. “The last three years we’ve won two gold medals,” said Craig Skeffington, who has directed the Red Riots Marching Band for the last 14 years. “We’re traditionally one of the stronger bands on the circuit.”
