Ralph Baxter Jr. is running unopposed with Karen Callaghan
to fill the South Portland School Board terms left vacant by William
Harris and Mark Reuscher, who both resigned from their positions
earlier this year. Callaghan's profile was featured in the Oct. 26

Political experience: South Portland School Board 1993-2002, (Chairman 1995, 1999 and 2001).
Civic Associations: South Portland Elementary School Building Committee; SPSSF committee; coached youth soccer, basketball and softball
Statement about candidacy: I decided to get back on the school board because I felt I could be helpful. I have experience but also am excited about new things, such as consolidation that are out there. I am a hard worker and open minded to anything. I think I will be an asset to the board of education.
Curriculum Development: Continue to seek new and better options.
Special education: Keep under control and be flexible with changes.
Infrastructure needs: Maintain elementary schools, fix SPHS, seek middle school funding.
School spending priorities: Maintain current programs, reduced under used programs.
Goals to accomplish next term: Increase school spirit; renovate SPHS and middle schools; be innovative.
Issues voters bring up most often: High School project.
