Vandalism results in Saturday classes for all CEHS students (Printed March 28, 2008)
Staff Writer
Cape Elizabeth High School students will be attending classes from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (Saturday) to make up for Monday’s cancellation due to extensive damage done to the building Sunday night.
Captain Brent Sinclair with the Cape Elizabeth Police Department said they suspect nine boys and one girl caused upwards of $10,000 in damage in a “well planned attack.”
All of the suspects are students at the school, and although they have all come forward to take responsibility for the vandalism, Sinclair said police are still putting together the pieces to determine the details of the crime.
Based on their investigation so far, police believe the suspects entered the school through a window they had unlocked during the normal school day. After parking their cars off school grounds somewhere around midnight on Sunday, one of the suspects entered through the window and let the others in.
The suspects put tape over surveillance cameras on the inside of the building and some even wore gloves to prevent the police from identifying any fingerprints left behind, Sinclair said.
“We know what happened, everybody’s just trying to get their story straight,” he said.
Although the police normally patrol the area around the high school, Sinclair said the vandals used flashlights and cell phones to navigate through the dark building to avoid turning on any lights and being spotted from outside.
“The town is the real victim,” Sinclair said.
Principal Jeffrey Shedd could not be reached for comment.

Nate Jones? Who the hell are you?
Do you even know the ten kids names? Or anything about them? Have you heard both sides of the story? Do you have any idea of what the real truth behind any of this is? "A well planned attack"? "The town is the real victim"? What is this, Iraq? South Central? Jesus Christ. It was a senior prank. There was no "evil intent" or intent to cause any damage to anyone or anything. Last year, the class of 2007 glued a desk to the floor and painted the walls. What if someone was allergic to glue? Who had to pay for new rugs? What about the "vandalism" on the wall? I personally know this situation a hell of a lot better than some ignorant blow hard like you, and I know that these kids are not 1/100 as bad as you and the rest of the media idiots are making them out to be. You make them sound like [expletive deleted] axe murders you douche bag. I'm not excusing their behavior - it was ignorant, rude, and thoughtless - but it was thoughtless, not heartless. These kids all have bright futures ahead of them and should not be robbed of that because of a dumb mistake. They are just kids. They deserve the suspension and should pay for what they destroyed, and thats it. Get your facts straight if you ever want to be more than a no-name blogger [expletive deleted].

Well, Voice of reason, you seem to take this story quite personally- was one of these vandals a sibling perhaps? A friend? Hopefully not child as I'd fear if you were charged with rearing a kid. How about we walk you through this using baby steps. Nate is a reporter. In this case he is reporting what the police are saying, such as this was a "well planned attack", "the town was the real victim", etc. I guess you have some sort of reading comprehension problem, because you seem to have imagined the reporter used the phrase "evil intent" why don't you go back and review the story again?
Where does the reporter make them sound like ax murders? He is describing a situation accurately and without hyperbole, unlike some anonymous filth-mouth weird-o.
You are in fact excusing their behavior when you bring up a prank performed last year. Your message is: this is what seniors do, what's the big deal? If that's not an excuse I guess its okay if I say "You're a moron, but no offense."
Finally, the reporter put his name on the piece unlike you, who doesn't have the guts to be associated with their own opinions. What does that say about you?
I can understand your anger - every once in a while the privileged and entitled children of Cape Elizabeth show the rest of us that social class does not equal class in personal conduct.
