Letter: Support Larry Bliss (June 6, 2008)

I’ve known Rep. Larry Bliss of South Portland for nearly 20 years, well before he became a Maine legislator, and when I was a 21-year-old college student at USM and he was just joining the administration team. And one thing hasn’t changed, his compassion, patience and willingness to listen to the people continues. As a former Scarborough Town Councilor, I am always concerned with who we elect to represent our community’s interests. We must elect someone that is sensible, free of petty partisanship, a hard worker and one that can think outside the proverbial political box. This election is deeply important to Maine and I support Larry Bliss for the Maine Senate because he has done a great job in the Maine House for the last eight years. He is a strong leader who places people first!
Larry’s sponsorship of legislation that protects and improves lake water quality; he supported new measures to minimize carbon emissions from coal plants; introduced and supported legislation to control excessive engine idling; advocated for the recycling of cellular phones; supported the inclusion of uniform energy codes in statewide building code regulations; he led the fight for the passage of RGGI greenhouse gas initiative; and he introduced legislation to ensure the protection of spent nuclear fuel storage has made him the people’s legislator. Most importantly, Larry’s advocacy for fair and accessible health insurance for those less fortunate and Maine’s small businesses has made him a strong leader.
Larry has lived in the South Portland area for nearly 20 years. He is keenly aware of the issues facing all of our communities and understands what steps are needed to address a number of these issues. Larry is well respected in Augusta by members of both parties and has what it takes to gain a consensus on important legislation. Larry has the utmost integrity and will continue to work tirelessly for the people of District 7 in Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth and South Portland. Please join me in supporting Larry Bliss for Maine Senate District 7 on June 10.
