Letter: Dogs on beach debate gone on too long (Sept. 19, 2008)

Editor:

What in the world is going on at city hall in South Portland? It is inconceivable that an issue such as the dogs in Willard Beach could be dragging on for so long. What is wrong with our councilors that are too timid to make a decision? It is a no brainer that many citizens want some reform from dogs being allowed on the beach. Are the councilors trying to appease dog owners or are they making decisions that effect the good of the community? I am tired of hearing so many people complain and nothing is being done to resolve this. A task force to study the complaints? Lets get real about this.

Do we need to put this to a vote or are the councilors strong enough to make their own decisions? Justified complaints demand action and this non-action from the councilors indicates that they just want this issue to go away. Well it won’t and you folks need to take a strong stand and listen to the residents — not the dog owners. Period.
