Letter: The only solution is to ban dogs from the beach (Sept. 19, 2008)

Editor:

My wife and I attended the “Willard Beach Task Force” meeting on Sept. 8 and left after an hour.  With all due respect to the members of this task force, when does this railroad station close?  The people of South Portland are not naïve and can see right through this smoke and mirror approach to remedy this ongoing debate. It’s plain to see that this group, for the most part, is in favor of allowing the dogs on the beach and of course their recommendation to the city council will confirm this. The city council, which is mostly pro dog, will continue on their merry way with little or no significant changes. What happens to all the letters, phone calls and emails to the city council and police department? It’s apparent they fall on deaf ears. The only way to correct the problem(s) is to ban the dogs from the beach period. Anything less and the complaints continue, the confrontations continue and the real problem is still not resolved.
