Letter: Food cupboard gives thanks for help (Sept. 26, 2008)
Editor:
On Saturday, Sept. 13, the South Portland Housing Authority celebrated their 40th anniversary with a cookout and food drive for the Cupboard. This was free to the public and everyone attending brought food items for us. We filled the van and received $335 in monetary donations. This was a “win, win” for us, and we had fun!
It was so very heartwarming for us, as so many of our older clients were there and donated food. They wanted to “give something back” for all the help they have received from us. We know them all, they have been coming to our Cupboard every month for a number of years and are very special to us.
We thank Director Elaine Neelon, and her excellent staff for not only thinking of us but having such a special occasion. It was a beautiful day, the hamburgers and hot dogs delicious, the prizes, magician, fire engine, face painting, and all the helpful services made quite a day. This event also ensured that the Food Cupboard’s shelves were well stocked for those in our community that need help.
Sybil Riemensnider, Director
South Portland Food Cupboard
