In your own words, why are you seeking elected office?
You may recognize my name from my four terms as your state representative (1998-2006) and three terms as South Portland’s youngest elected city councilor (1989-1998). Through the years I have worked hard to keep you informed, provide access to a range of government services, and remain available and responsive to you and your needs. You may remember receiving legislative updates, questionnaires, comprehensive election information, and your property tax and rent rebate application from me.
This election everyone is talking about change. The change we most need is in our state budget. Taxes continue to be too high, especially the gas tax at 27.6 cents per gallon. Promised property tax relief did not happen. South Portland continues to be short-changed when it comes to education funding for both K-12 and special education. Additionally, the state does not shoulder their portion of the bill for our school renovations and construction projects while other areas of the state are well provided for.
Cuts made during the last legislative term were just plain wrong. Needy and vulnerable Mainers lost their medical care, their mental health services, in-home services, access to substance abuse treatment, and the list goes on. At the same time, administrative dollars continue to flow with inadequate accountability to state agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services. Change is overdue.
This election, I urge you to vote for Kevin Glynn for State Representative. Mine is a name you know … a record you can trust.
Name: Bryan Kaenrath

Position seeking: State Representative

Occupation: Legislator/Student
Marital Status: Single
Highest Level of education completed: Bachelors, current grad student at University of Maine
Top three issues:
1. Fiscal discipline/tax reform
2.Renewable energy/ environmental protection
3. Public safety
Why are you seeking elected office?
Two years ago the people of South Portland gave me the opportunity to represent them in the Maine Legislature. It’s been a great honor and I’ve never forgotten the people who put me there and what they entrusted me to do. In my first term I introduced legislation addressing highway noise and reforming our motor vehicle inspection system. I’ve supported important measures for tax reform, renewable energy and affordable healthcare. As a member of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee I worked toward the consolidation of our state prison system and county jails, which will result in multi-million dollar savings to Maine taxpayers. With the committee I’ve also dealt with other issues such as cracking down on drunk driving and new laws for sex offenders.
Now I’m asking South Portland to send me back to Augusta for another term. If reelected, I will again focus on issues of Public Safety including combating rising drug use and trafficking, activities that lead to higher overall crime rates. We must also get tough on graffiti vandalism which leads to the decay of our communities, lowers property values and helps gangs build and communicate. Also, now more than ever, we need meaningful tax reform and to hold the line on government spending. I will continue to advocate for clean renewable energy that reduces our dependence on expensive foreign oil and protects our environment. Above all we must have an ethical government that is honest, open and held accountable by the people.
