Letter: Opponents using dog ‘scare tactics’ (Jan. 23, 2009)
I read the discouraging news about the Save Willard Beach campaign to take away what little freedom dogs have from this narrow beach property. I also read their Web site which was full of myths and scare tactics. I also detected genuine despise from those individuals over animals in general. They claim that children and grandchildren are exposed to disease! The ocean is full of bacteria, dead fish, sea creature urine and feces. I’ll bet the farm that if a “search dog” were to locate their lost child in the woods, that would be OK wouldn’t it?
I live with a household of dogs. They eat and sleep where I do. They even sometimes defecate and urinate in the house. I have never caught any disease from them, yet these holier than thou humans want to take away from beings that share the planet with us.
