Letter: Support libraries (April 3, 2009)
I want to thank public libraries for the mission in modern society and how they support it. The library is the house of learning. Libraries and community help build and invest in the mind of young and old alike.
I am very proud because we have a full time library media specialist in each subject at SMCC and in Portland. It is a way of improving student achievement, a goal we all share. The SMCC library helps teachers and students learn more about resources, especially using books and technology. Parents and community members continue to encourage schools, students and everyone to use library resources and collections. While Internet access is very important, as students we use books for learning. The better library staff and services, large library collection, all are essential for our student’s success.
In my opinion, everyone is welcome to use its available resources in a program of collection, catalogue, books, and other materials. The library is ready to provide access to individual library users and users else where through cooperating libraries. Come, join me to use public libraries, it’s free; you need to have a library card, and learn more information across the nation and the world.
Honorine Uwishema,
SMCC student
