Candidate thanks area residents
To the editor:
Thank you, South Portland and Cape Elizabeth.
I want to thank the scores of folks in the South Portland area who gave $5 to Clean Elections on my behalf. We are the first campaign to meet the new, stringent Clean Election requirements setting us on our way for a successful gubernatorial campaign.
The Mills For Maine campaign could not have done this without your help.
I would especially like to thank Tom Dunne of Cape Elizabeth, who reached out to so many of you. Special thanks also go to Kevin Glynn of South Portland and Linda Riddell of Cape Elizabeth.
It is an honor to have such thoughtful people working together to better our state. I am grateful for the strong showing of support from your community.
It’s time for fiscal integrity, for proven leadership, and for Republican common sense. Let’s take back the Blaine House.

Candidate for governor
Don’t take away Fort Williams
To the editor:
I recognize that it cost Cape Elizabeth citizens part of their tax dollars to maintain Fort Williams. In these difficult economic times, it would seem to me that some of the creative ideas for raising funds would be in order. However, the scheme the town council voted on is not the answer.
For one thing, it is poorly conceived. It would require additional personnel. It allows pedestrians and cyclists in free, allows cars in free as long as they don’t park. It will no longer be the welcoming recreation delight that it has been all these years.
Imagine paying someone running around all day looking for expired parking meters or receipts and writing tickets, then trying to collect from out-of-state residents. Good luck. Also, it would create a parking problem in the neighborhood. Someone can drive in, drop off occupants of the car and go elsewhere to park.
Most important, however, is the fact there are so few things in life anymore that are free for families of all income levels. We should preserve that option. If you’re a Cape citizen, I urge you to vote against the parking fee proposal in June. Sixty percent of you did last time around. Let’s do it again and come up with other solutions.
Bob Tripler
